down to one

Apparently I work at a revolving door, just no one told me when I started. It's the front desk at a hotel. This isn't a department that needs a hundred employees, but it does need enough competent employees to cover the shifts. IF we were fully staffed there would be a manager, a supervisor, two night auditors, and at least three agents. This happened magically for about two weeks.

When I started they were short a supervisor and an agent. Then a night auditor left, then a supervisor was hired, then a night auditor was hired, then an agent left, then three additional agents were hired, then another agent left. All three of the new hires have now left (it's only been a week!). If you were keeping track here's the score; we have a manager, a supervisor, two night auditors, and an agent (me).

Since we are on to summer months and we tend to get busier we really need to have additional agents. Especially since I am on my way out (in two months), I will feel really guilty if I leave with barely new employees. When I leave there will be an entirely new staff from the time I was hired (other than the manager and a night auditor). I am not completely stoked about having all new people around as there is always a period of time for getting used to a job and how things work. There will be times when they call the wrong department for an item, or give wrong directions, or not take a deposit when need be. These are all things I will have to live with, after all I did them too.
