first date

I'm glad someone asked to hear this story. Honestly, I might have told it anyway because I like it so much. Mr. Y Not and I met through an online dating site and after a few short exchanges, he asked if we could meet in person. We planned to meet for lunch on Saturday, May 29th.

Short tangent: Earlier that week I had a date with a different guy from the same site. I had had more conversation with him than Mr. Y Not and was therefore initially more interested in him (Mr. Y Not has never heard that, oops!). The coffee date went downhill quickly. I felt like I was interviewing for the position of his girlfriend as he rambled off the typical questions about hobbies and family and work. We had nothing in common and couldn't have a normal conversation. That date ended with a handshake (yep!). He said he would call me, never did. I'm glad that guy never called me though, my next date went so much better than expected.

Finally, it was time for our lunch date. I met him at Friday's where he was already waiting for me. Mr. Y Not's most obvious physical trait is his height, and I was not quite prepared for this. He is 6'6'' (I'm 5'5" on a good day) and as we walked to the table I gawked in my head at how tall he was. I ordered a soup and sandwich combo of broccoli cheddar and California club, Mr. Y Not ordered the Jack Daniel's burger. How do I remember this? I have no idea, but I remember registering it when we were eating, maybe I was trying to log the memory for exactly this moment. I also remember I was wearing a blue striped t-shirt and he was wearing a red polo, although he has several and I don't know which one it was.

The difference between conversation on this date and the coffee date earlier in the week were night and day. It was an actual conversation! We still talked about hobbies, family, and work, but we had a comfortable flow which felt refreshing. He was able to take my teasing him of his nerdy tendencies, an important aspect in my future partner!

Here's where it gets interesting! About half way through our lunch, the couple at the next table got up to leave. They stopped at our table and the man asks us "Are you two on a first or second date?" I hesitantly responded, "Yes...". "Well," says this man, "we have been married for 25 years. You two are great together, you work really well."

WHAT?! Did that just happen? Mr. Y Not and I both agree that this is the strangest thing that has ever happened to us on a date and continue with the conversation we left off.

As we finish our meal, he asks me if I would like to go for a walk. Ah! I've got you all sized up now mister! You have a system of taking girls out for lunch and then if you like them enough, invite them to another activity. Happily, I said yes. I quickly made my way to the bathroom so that I could text my friend before we left to tell her that this date was going soooo much better than the previous one.

Our walk was nothing too exciting. It was at Como Park, which was extremely crowded. After one walk around the lake we said our goodbyes. A hug and an almost kiss (I thought he was too nervous, but he later told me he just didn't think it was time) ended the date.

This time I was excited about the promise of a call. I also later found out that Mr. Y Not had a date the next day. She was no competition though, he called me that following Monday and we've been together ever since. Even though we didn't become "exclusive" until a couple weeks later, we count the 29th as our anniversary.

i can't stay away

Hello everyone! Miss me? Of course you did. My plan for this blog was actually to just let it fall to the wayside. This project per se was the lowest on my totem pole, and I would really like to get the photoblog and etsy back up and running. Speaking of, have you been to the photoblog? There's a new post! Anyway, I have decided to return to this blog because I have had moments lately where I say to myself "Self, this would be a good blog topic". Then I would catch myself and remind me that I'm not blogging anymore. Well, it has happened enough that I m just going to give in!

Right about now is when I start to make excuses for my absence. It is all a sort of spiral effect. I started feeling like I didn't really have anything to blog about, then I met a guy, started dating, had things to blog about, but was too busy to blog. Speaking of the guy, he's kind of a big part of my life now, and most of the things that I do will involve him. Since he doesn't have an online presence of his own (no facebook, myspace, blog, etc) I'd like to keep him somewhat of a mystery and not mention his real name. Instead I will refer to him as Mr. Y Not (a nickname he has been given at my work). I do realize that most of you know who he is, and may not see the point in this, but since this blog isn't exactly hidden from public view, there are still strangers who could stalk him! And if you know him, then you are in on a secret, don't you feel special? :)

Now, I wasn't necessarily planning on recapping all that has happened in the last 5 months of my absence. Instead I'd like to leave it up to you. Yes, YOU! No, not that guy over there, YOU - THE ONE STARING AT YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN! Below is a list of some of the blog-worthy events that have happened and I would like you to tell me which ones you want to hear about. This isn't a most votes wins type of thing, but rather one vote and it's in. All a topic needs is one vote and I will be sure to include it on here sometime soon. I already have a few other topics that I will be bringing up as well. So let's get this show on the road!

What do you want to know about?
